Copy the Trader Next Door

Priced May 15, 2025

eToro's best-known feature let you hand your portfolio to a stranger. Pick another user whose trades you liked, and eToro copied every move into your account. The Israeli company started in 2007 as a currency-trading site called RetailFX. By 2025 it had millions of funded accounts across Europe and beyond. It had tried to go public through a SPAC in 2021 and walked away. In May 2025 it listed on Nasdaq the traditional way.

Trading as a Social Network

Yoni Assia, his brother Ronen Assia, and David Ring founded the company in Tel Aviv in 2007. The bet was that trading could feel like a game, then like a social network. In 2010 eToro launched OpenBook, which let users follow and copy each other. It added stocks and, later, crypto. In 2021 it agreed to merge with a SPAC, FinTech Acquisition Corp. V. Both sides ended that deal in July 2022.

The IPO It Waited For

eToro priced at $52 a share on May 13, 2025, above its range of $46 to $50, and listed on Nasdaq as ETOR. It raised about $620 million. The stock closed its first day up about 29 percent. In August 2026 eToro agreed to buy TradeZero, an American brokerage, in a deal worth up to $231 million. It still trades on Nasdaq under ETOR.
