Mytheresa began as a single boutique in Munich called Theresa, opened by Susanne and Christoph Botschen in 1987. Nearly twenty years later they put it online. By 2021 the site shipped Gucci, Bottega Veneta, and The Row to wealthy shoppers around the world. Luxury had been slow to trust the internet. The pandemic closed the stores, and rich customers moved online for good. Mytheresa went public in January 2021.
Small Edits for Big Spenders
The Botschens launched mytheresa.com in 2006. The bet was that the richest shoppers would buy online if the selection felt as tight as a good boutique. Mytheresa bought less, chose carefully, and courted its top customers with private events. A small group of big spenders drove most of its sales. In 2014 the American department store Neiman Marcus bought the business, and Michael Kliger later became its CEO.
Buying Its Biggest Rival
The parent company priced its offering at $26 a share on January 20, 2021, at the top of a raised range. It raised $407 million on the New York Stock Exchange, and the stock closed its first day up 19 percent. In April 2025 Mytheresa bought Yoox Net-a-Porter from Richemont, which took a 33 percent stake in return. The company renamed itself LuxExperience and now trades on the NYSE as LUXE.
